Sports facility Eissporthalle cleared afresh - Conjoint announcement from Bergisch Gladbach city authorities and ESV organization
The ice rink in Bensberg, a popular destination for local schoolchildren and families, has reopened for school and club sports, following a three-day solution for its continued operation. This news has brought relief and joy to many, as the rink had been closed due to concerns about a damaged wooden beam.
Ragnar Migenda, first deputy in charge of building supervision, is pleased with the solution found for the rink's continued operation. Stephan Dekker, the school superintendent, is also satisfied that a solution has been found for school sports to continue in the hall.
The repair tasks for the affected wooden beam at the ice rink have been assigned to a specialized local construction company, authorized by the municipality. The commissioned company has confirmed a date for the wooden beam renovation, which is set to take place in summer 2026.
The reopened ice rink allows school and club sports to continue as usual, much to the delight of schoolchildren and families. Jörg Scholtz, chairman of the ESV Bergisch Gladbach, is pleased with the city's swift and solution-oriented approach in reopening the ice rink.
In a bid to celebrate the rink's reopening, an ice disco event has been organised for this Saturday, September 12, 2025, from 7-10 pm. This event is open to all ice sports fans from Bergisch Gladbach and beyond. The ice disco offers free entry for all attendees under 14 years old.
It is worth noting that the reopened hall requires close supervision by the building authority to ensure safety and adherence to regulations. The state-approved expert, who inspected the hall in 2024, concluded that the hall can be reopened until the end of the ice skating season in spring 2026.
The ice rink in Bensberg is now back in action, providing a chilly and exciting space for local communities to enjoy their favourite winter sports. The summer renovation, scheduled for 2026, promises to further enhance the rink's facilities and ensure its longevity for future generations to enjoy.
