Get ready, basketball fans! Syntainics MBC just landed a major win as basketball guru Silvano Poropat returns to the team as Sports Director. After a restructure in the club's management, Poropat, MBC's long-time head coach, steps into his new role, rounding out the leadership crew with head coach Marco Ramondino. With the departure of managing partner Martin Geissler on New Year's Eve 2025, the team will be led by two power players until a commercial managing director is hired.

"We've scored a standout player for our sporting leadership with Poropat," Geissler announced. "Silvano is a seasoned, globally recognized basketball whiz who knows the league like the back of his hand – and the ins and outs of Weißenfels like none other. Together with Silvano and Marco, I'll be putting together the squad for the upcoming season," he added. "All in all, I'm relieved to pass the baton to the right people."

Open-Ended Contract

According to the announcement, Silvano’s agreed to an open-ended commitment. He'll step into the role in August, joining the team at pre-season camp in Zrece, Slovenia. By the end of the year, he'll gradually take over the reins from Geissler.

Poropat coached the basketball wolves in Weißenfels for over a decade, with breaks here and there. In 2012, he earned immediate promotion to the Bundesliga after the ProA. In the 2013/14 season, he led the MBC to ninth place on the table, clinching the "Trainer of the Year" title. After his departure in 2015, he returned in 2019, keeping the team afloat, and made a triumphant return in 2020, navigating the Wolves through the challenging 2020/21 season amid the pandemic to a 15th-place finish.
