Renovation Plan for Artificial Turf Pitches in Nettetal Sports City

Sports Concept: An overview of innovative ideas and strategies in the realm of sports and athletics.

Nettetal Sports City is set to undergo a series of renovations to its artificial turf pitches, with the aim of improving quality, safety, and usability. The plan, which extends up to the 2030s, includes renovations for several clubs, including SC Union Nettetal, Leuth, Schaag, Hinsbeck, and Kaldenkirchen.

Timeline

The renovation process will be divided into several phases, starting with an assessment and planning period, followed by funding and approval, procurement, renovation works, inspection and handover, and post-renovation monitoring. The total estimated project duration is approximately 6-8 months from planning to post-renovation review.

Funding

The estimated cost for each renovation project ranges between €300,000 - €700,000, depending on the size and complexity of the pitch. Funding will come from various sources such as municipal budget allocations, regional sports development grants, sponsorships from local businesses, partnerships with sports clubs and associations, and crowd-funding or community initiatives.

The city administration is checking for available funding and will provide opportunities for sports clubs. It's important to note that any additional needs or costs must be proven by the respective club together with the SSV and are subject to political approval. Funds will be made available when possible within the budgetary framework.

Maintenance Requirements

To ensure the longest possible usage time, the clubs will be qualified for maintenance and upkeep after the renovations. This includes regular cleaning, grooming, infill maintenance, inspections, repairs, surface testing, and drainage system maintenance. The lifespan expectancy of the renovated pitches is typically 8-12 years with proper upkeep.

Additional Recommendations

To minimize environmental impact, an environmental impact review should be included in the planning, using eco-friendly materials and recycling old turf. User groups (clubs, schools) should also be engaged in maintenance awareness programs. Scheduling renovation works during off-peak seasons will help minimize disruption.

The sequence of renovations corresponds to an assessment by the company Polytan, a professional manufacturer of artificial turf pitches nationwide. Schaag is scheduled for renovation in 2028, followed by SC Union Nettetal in 2027, Leuth in 2031, and Hinsbeck and Kaldenkirchen in 2029/30.

Dominik Hoffmann, head of the family and education department, emphasized the need for early planning security to generate funds within the clubs' own structures. Even if budgetary reserves are necessary, a good solution is expected in the interest of the clubs and the sports city of Nettetal. The city is committed to supporting the clubs in their efforts to maintain and improve the quality of their facilities.

Economic and social policy within Nettetal Sports City will be influenced by the renovation plans, as the improved quality and usability of artificial turf pitches could potentially attract more events and increase community engagement.

The new sports facilities may also provide a platform for promoting local sports, such as football, making Nettetal Sports City a more attractive destination for both players and spectators.
