Sports complex Sportpark Ost formally unveiled in Regensburg

Regensburg, Germany, is set to enhance its vibrant sports culture with the completion of the Ost Sports Park. The new facility, located on Zeißstraße, is a testament to the city's commitment to promoting community health and youth well-being through improved sports facilities.

The Ost Sports Park, a joint construction between Regensburg.Baths and Arenas GmbH, appointed by the city in 2019, boasts a multifunctional design that caters to local sports clubs and recreational players alike. The new swimming pool, set to open on July 29, and the athletics training hall, scheduled to open on August 4, are key features of this state-of-the-art sports complex.

The construction process, which began in August 2022, has been optimised for synergies, with a shared entrance area, parking lot, and energy centre. Sustainability has been a priority, as evidenced by the use of up to 6,000 cubic meters of recycled concrete in the construction. Moreover, the energy for heating is generated 100% CO-neutral on the parking lot surfaces, and electricity is generated directly on the hall roofs. The project also received a subsidy of 4.6 million euros from the KfW program for efficient construction.

The Ost Sports Park is expected to strengthen Regensburg's position as an attractive sports location, improving facilities for clubs and citizens. Regensburg's Mayor, Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer, is particularly pleased, describing the project as a catalyst for growth in the eastern part of the city and an enhancement of the neighbourhood. The Sports Mayor, Astrid Freudenstein, shares this sentiment, believing the Ost Sports Park will contribute significantly to Regensburg's status as a thriving sports city.

An open day will be held on August 3 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Ost Sports Park, offering the community a first-hand look at the new facilities. Further information about the open day can be found at das-stadtwerk-regensburg.de.

The coordinated pool and room offerings at the Ost Sports Park cater to competitive swimming and swimming courses. Private usage will have designated training times, ensuring everyone can enjoy the facilities. The athletics training hall will be available for recreational, school, and competitive athletes, as well as for various sports competitions.

The design competition for the Ost Sports Park was won by Behnisch Architects, who delivered a unanimous winning design that reflects the city's commitment to sustainable urban design and community-centered facilities.

As the Ost Sports Park opens its doors, Regensburg continues to demonstrate its dedication to fostering a thriving sports culture and promoting community well-being. The new facility is set to become a hub for sports, recreation, and community engagement, enhancing the city's already strong sporting scene.

The multifunctional Ost Sports Park, catering to various sports clubs and recreational players, will bolster Regensburg's reputation as an attractive sports location, particularly with the upcoming open day on August 3. Additionally, the sports complex, which hosts facilities for competitive swimming, football, and athletics, will contribute to Regensburg's status as a thriving sports city.
