Sports company Aspect Sports purchases Varanasi Mahadev Ascenders for the Professional Govinda League of 2025
Aspect Sports, the sports vertical of global conglomerate Aspect Global Ventures, has made its debut in the Pro Govinda League with the acquisition of the Varanasi Mahadev Ascenders team. The team was previously known as Om Brahmand Sai Govinda Pathak (Malad West).
The Pro Govinda League, officially recognized by the Maharashtra Government, is revolutionizing the sport of dahi handi. This non-cricket league, which generated excitement as a new format, is now in its third season, with the trophy unveiled by West Indies cricket legend Chris Gayle on August 6, 2025, in Thane. Chris Gayle serves as the brand ambassador for the league.
The 2025 edition of the Pro Govinda League featured 16 powerhouse teams from across India, including the Varanasi Mahadev Ascenders, the Bangalore Blazers, the Hyderabad Dynamos, the Jaipur Kings, and the Mumbai Falcons Yoddhas. The finals concluded with the Nagpur Ninjas being crowned as champions, receiving a prize of ₹75 lakhs. Other podium finishers included the Goa Surfers and the Alibagh Knights.
The league involves multiple team franchises competing in a tournament structure, culminating in finals held at venues such as the NSCI Dome in Worli, Mumbai. The Varanasi Mahadev Ascenders secured a strong start in the tournament.
