- Sports celebrity's partner welcomes new arrival, the offspring of the deceased athlete.
Meredith Gaudreau, the late Johnny Gaudreau's wife, has given birth to their third child, Carter Michael Gaudreau. Announcing the joyous news on Instagram on March 1st, Meredith shared tender images of her new bundle of joy, along with his two older siblings: two-year-old Noa and one-year-old Johnny.
"Welcomed our third baby! 1.4.25," Meredith's post read, accompanied by photographs that showed Carter resting next to his parents' framed picture. "8 lbs 3 oz, 20.5 inches - just like his dad. He looks just like his dad too," the proud mother gushed, referring to the striking similarities between the newborn and his late father.
A Surprise Pregnancy
During Meredith's heartfelt eulogy at Johnny's funeral in September 2024, she revealed that the pregnancy with Carter was a welcome surprise, only eight weeks along at the time of her husband's tragic death. Meredith emphasized, "Originally, we were a family of five."
Tragic Cycling Accident
Johnny and his brother Matthew died in a heartbreaking cycling accident on August 29, 2024, when they were struck by a suspected drunk driver. The incident occurred the night before Katie's wedding, making the tragedy even more unbearable for the family. A passionate tribute to Johnny was shared on Instagram, where Meredith wrote, "Though I've lost you, I'm still the happiest girl in the world for having had you. I love you so much. You were perfect."
Prolific NHL Career
Johnny Gaudreau, a seven-time All-Star player, accomplished great feats within the NHL throughout his career. His remarkable talent shone in his playmaking and scoring abilities. He played for the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets, as well as being a fixture on the U.S. men's national ice hockey team. During the 2018 World Championships in Sweden, Gaudreau won a bronze medal with the team.
Tragically, Johnny's career, much like his life, came to an end in a devastating accident. Much like the development of Carter, his point record and standings within the league often caught many by surprise with his extraordinary skill and consistency. Carter's mentioning of his father's nickname, in such close proximity to his father's framed picture, is a poignant reminder of the legacy the family has upheld.
