CBS Sports Streaming Platform Dyn Sport Mix Expands with New Investment

Dyn Sport Mix, a free-to-air sports channel, debuted last month on various platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Zattoo, Joyn, Pluto TV, and is now available in HD via Astra (19.2° East). This expansion is made possible by a strategic investment from the Schwarz Group and the German Football League (DFL), alongside Springer.

The investment aims to accelerate Dyn's domestic and international growth, as well as enhance its media technology. The Schwarz Group, which owns Lidl and Kaufland, and the DFL bring digital expertise to Dyn Media’s growth. Christian Seifert, former DFL chief, is also involved in the venture.

Dyn Sport Mix offers a variety of sports content, including live matches, highlight shows, and magazine formats. Selected live fixtures, re-runs of games, and studio talk shows like Kretzsche & Schmiso featuring former national handball star Stefan Kretzschmar and commentator Florian Schmidt-Sommerfeld are available on the channel.

The addition of Astra distribution is expected to significantly widen the reach of Dyn Sport Mix across Germany. As a result, Dyn Sport Mix is now accessible to more than 16 million TV households in Germany.

The investment also aims to develop new business areas for Dyn. From 2024, the video offering of tabloid newspaper BILD will focus on its own digital platforms. Axel Springer is closing its linear TV channel BILD on December 31, 2023.

The exact terms of the investment were not disclosed. However, the investment is expected to support Dyn's expansion plans and strengthen its position in the sports streaming market.

The broadcasting licence for BILD TV will be returned. Dyn Sport Mix aims to make niche sports more visible to mass audiences by strengthening its reach. The channel offers live matches, highlight shows, and magazine formats from five core sports: handball, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, and hockey.

In conclusion, the strategic investment in Dyn Sport Mix by the Schwarz Group, DFL, and Springer is set to revolutionise the German sports streaming market, providing a wider audience with a diverse range of sports content.
