Prime Sportsbook Brings Old-School Vegas Style to Online Betting in Ohio

Prime Sportsbook, a new online sportsbook, is set to launch in Ohio on Wednesday, bringing a traditional, old-school Vegas style of sports betting to the state's online market. The sportsbook, operated by Out The Gate, a Cherry Hill, New Jersey company, has partnered with Adam Bjorn's Plannatech for tech and risk management.

The executive chairman of Prime Sportsbook, Joe Brennan Jr., is a Sports Betting Hall of Famer who helped spearhead the movement to legalize sports betting in New Jersey and other states. Brennan Jr. aims to bring a simple, fair, and "basic" bookmaking approach to the online world, targeting sharp bettors with high betting limits, reduced juice, and fair pricing.

Prime Sportsbook's unique features include a traditional bookmaking model, reduced juice at -108 vig, high limits for sharp bettors, fast payouts, direct customer support, a loyalty program with Prime Points, and comprehensive betting options. Unlike many large sportsbooks that focus heavily on user interface or extensive promotions, Prime Sportsbook prioritizes fair odds, fewer gimmicks, and a personalized customer experience.

The sportsbook will have known limits, with the maximum allowable bet clearly displayed in the bet slip for every customer. Regulators in New Jersey are still testing the Plannatech software platform, but Ohio sports bettors will be the first to use the new Prime Sportsbook. Customers will not be limited, regardless of their betting history.

The retail book of Prime Sportsbook is set to open at a restaurant under construction in Geneva-on-the-Lake, located outside the campus of the SPIRE Institute. Out The Gate has a partnership with Geneva Sports, which runs the SPIRE Institute, a college prep school. Prime Sportsbook becomes Ohio's 20th sportsbook.

After the launch in Ohio, Prime Sportsbook plans to expand to New Jersey and Kentucky. Rebets will be allowed on the Prime Sportsbook. The sportsbook promises high betting limits, with expectations to take upward of $10,000 on sides relatively early on.

Prime Sportsbook aims to recreate a "brick and mortar" Vegas sportsbook feel in an online form, setting it apart within the crowded US market where many operators prioritize flashy apps and heavy incentives. With its focus on transparency, fairness, and an old-school betting vibe, Prime Sportsbook offers a unique alternative for sports bettors in Ohio and beyond.

| Aspect | Prime Sportsbook | Typical Large US Sportsbooks (FanDuel, DraftKings, etc.) | |-------------------------|-------------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------| | Bookmaking style | Old-school, simple, fair pricing | Advanced digital interfaces, more complex betting options | | Juice/Vig | Reduced juice (-108) | Standard juice (-110) | | Target bettor type | Sharp and recreational bettors | Mostly recreational, with some features for sharps | | Customer support | Direct, person-to-person via multiple channels | Mostly digital support, chatbots | | Loyalty/Rewards | Points never expire | Points or rewards often expire or carry restrictions | | Payout speed | Fast payouts | Varies, often 1 to 2 days or quicker with push payments |
