April's Sports Betting Triumph in Nevada: A Record-Breaking Month
Sports betting establishments in Nevada generated $42.7 million in revenue during April.
The Silver State's sportsbooks celebrated a major victory in April 2025, raking in a whopping $42.7 million – the highest earnings for any April since 2018. This impressive feat occurred despite a somewhat lighter sports schedule compared to, say, March.
Hoops Rules the Game
Basketball reigned supreme, leading with a revenue of $20.9 million from a $246 million handle. This figure represents a staggering 51.75% surge compared to April 2024. NBA underdogs scoring early in the playoffs played a significant role in this triumphant performance.
March Madness: A Missed Opportunity
Unfortunately, March's revenue was somewhat held back by the NCAA tournament. Surprises were fewer than usual, leading to a modest 2.9% state win rate. But fear not, in April, the sportsbooks bounced back with a strong 8.5% hold on basketball bets, far exceeding the 6% rate in April 2024.
The Rise of Online Betting
Online sportsbooks once again played a significant role, contributing $33.2 million to the total revenue. Nevada's overall handle for the month reached an impressive $618.9 million, a 8.7% rise from April 2024. Although there were fewer events in April, the state still managed to boost its tax revenue to $2.8 million – nearly double what it collected in March.
Baseball and Hockey on the Rise
Baseball came in second place with $12.2 million in revenue, while hockey brought in $5.3 million, even with the Vegas Golden Knights advancing deeper into the Stanley Cup playoffs. Both sports helped lift Nevada's win rate to 6.9%, a marked improvement from the previous year.
Football Falls Flat, Parlays in Red
In contrast, football didn't fare as well, resulting in a loss of $5.1 million for the operators. Details on the parlays' performance were scarce, but they unfortunately ended up in the red.
Other Sports Shine Brightly
The "other" category – which encompasses everything from tennis to MMA – brought in $9.4 million in revenue, boasting the highest win rate of any category at 9.7%.
While the overall gaming industry faced challenges in Nevada, sports betting – particularly through mobile platforms and basketball – demonstrated remarkable resilience and growth in April 2025.
In the commendable success of April's sports betting in Nevada, baseball and hockey managed to shine, contributing $12.2 million and $5.3 million towards the total revenue, respectively. Despite the Vegas Golden Knights progressing deeper into the Stanley Cup playoffs, hockey still witnessed a steady inflow of bets.
