Get ready for a basketball power move! Long-time coach Silvano Poropat is making a comeback to Syntainics MBC as the sports director. This change in the club's management structure follows the departure of managing partner Martin Geissler. They're looking for a commercial managing director to join the team.
"We've snatched the ultimate dream candidate for sports leadership in the form of Silvano Poropat. With over 10 years of experience in basketball, Silvano's an internationally recognized expert who's no stranger to the league. More importantly, he's familiar with Weißenfels, having shaped the region's basketball scene," said Geissler, going on to say, "It's great to be handing over the reins to someone as capable as Poropat."

Poropat agreed to an undetermined contract. He'll kick off his stint in Weißenfels in early August, prior to the team's training camp in Zrece, Slovenia. By the end of the year, Poropat, aged 54, will begin taking over Geissler's responsibilities.
Poropat set the bar high as the Wolves' coach from 2011-2021, taking temporary breaks. In 2012, he was instrumental in gaining immediate promotion to the Bundesliga, and in the 2013/14 season, he earned "Trainer of the Year." Following his departure in 2015 and returns in 2019 and 2020, Poropat helped the team secure survival and finish 15th in the league during the 2020/21 season.

As sports director, Poropat will team up with the new head coach Marco Ramondino and departing managing director, Martin Geissler, to plan the squad and sporting strategy for the 2025/26 season. They're transitioning to a dual management structure with Poropat taking the lead on sporting aspects and another executive, Mario Zurkowski, managing the women's team.
