Sporting Official Harsh Sanghavi Fronts Team for Commonwealth Sports Dialogue Regarding 2030 Games Bid
How India Aims to Win the 2030 Commonwealth Games:
London, June 7: Indian officials have taken a serious approach to hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games, meeting with Commonwealth Sport authorities to discuss the bid framework. The delegation, helmed by Harsh Sanghavi, Minister for Sports in Gujarat, includes representatives from multiple Indian government departments.
The proposals are due August 31, and a final decision will be made by Commonwealth Sport in November. Over two intense days of discussions in London, the Indian team unveiled preparations for the bid, with the Commonwealth Sport team expressing enthusiasm for lending support.
On the matter, Harsh Sanghavi emphasized that the Games of 2030 should prioritize sustainability, community involvement, and, above all, athlete experience. "The athletes are the soul of the Games," he said. "Our decisions will always consider their comfort, needs, and performance."
Minister Sports placed considerable emphasis on legacies, stating that the Games should aim for long-term impact rather than temporary spectacle, utilizing existing venues wherever possible.
PT Usha, President of the Commonwealth Games Association of India, shared India's belief that sport unites nations, inspires youth, and sparks social change. "India stands ready to team up with the Commonwealth Games Federation to craft a future-oriented, legacy-driven edition of the Games in 2030."
The primary objectives of the meetings were to gain valuable insights into planning expectations, governance standards, and key milestones involved in the bid process. The dialogue underscored India's intentions to adhere to international best practices and constructively engage with all stakeholders throughout the process.
Both sides exchanged ideas on crucial components typically found in a Games bid proposal, including strategic vision, legacy aspirations, governance and institutional support, sustainability considerations, transportation strategies, sports programs, accessibility, and infrastructure planning, athlete services, and Games-time operations. Though the finer details remain under development, the focus was on meeting international standards and readying the crucial domains.
With the Government of Gujarat actively pursuing the 2030 Commonwealth Games bid, India appears to be a formidable contender. Their commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and a futuristic approach to the Games has raised hopes for a memorable and impactful event.
