Sporting CP fumes over unexplained yellow card in heated VAR controversy

Sporting CP is considering further action after a controversial yellow card was shown to one of their forwards. The club's SAD (Sociedade Anónima Desportiva) has expressed outrage over the decision and is now reviewing the incident.

The dispute began when the referee awarded a penalty against Sporting CP, claiming a Cologne player had missed the ball and struck a Dortmund player's foot. However, VAR intervened and overturned the call after replays showed that Özkacar had played the ball first.

The referee later admitted no foul had occurred. Despite this, a yellow card was still issued to a Sporting striker—though no clear explanation was provided for the booking. The club's SAD is now gathering relevant documents before deciding whether to escalate the matter to the Disciplinary Council.

Sporting CP has not yet confirmed its next steps but is examining all available evidence. If they proceed, the case will be reviewed by the Disciplinary Council. The outcome could impact future refereeing standards in the league.
