Peacock Guardianship Granted by Organization - Sponsorship Grants Offered for Peacock Exhibitions

Looking for a unique chance to contribute to some feathered friends and historical preservation? Look no further! The Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg (SPSG) has introduced peacock sponsorships! For just 200 euros, you can help ensure the well-being and conservation of these majestic birds on Pfauen Island.

Since 1795, peacocks have graced Pfauen Island, which is located in the Havel River, just southwest of Berlin. The SPSG manages this island, along with other cultural sites, including several palaces and gardens in Berlin and Potsdam. In 2003, a breeding enclosure was established for the peacocks, who are now a major attraction for visitors thanks to their breathtaking mating displays.

The small wooden castle on Pfauen Island is expected to reopen in May after extensive renovations. Originally constructed in the late 18th century, this castle, with its distinctive, wooden-ruin-style architecture, is a remarkable addition to the picturesque landscape.

While the SPSG doesn't currently operate a formal "Peacock Sponsorship program," your donation will aid in the maintenance and care of these vibrant creatures. Imagine seeing the impact of your support when you visit Pfauen Island and witness the peacocks strutting their stuff!

With the reopening of the small wooden castle in May 2025, following extensive renovations, the programme will further aim to protect this remarkable addition to the picturesque landscape. Additionally, the programme could be expanded to include preservation efforts for other areas such as Pfaueninsel's neighboring Brandenburg.
