Splatoon 3 showcases a flood of fresh gameplay and new features in its latest video demonstration
Splatoon 3, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular ink-splatting multiplayer game, is set to launch for the Nintendo Switch on September 9. Pre-orders for the game are available now.
The new entry in the Splatoon series introduces new features and modes, as well as resurfacing fan-favourite modes. The game features ink-splatting, multiplayer action where players claim turf and splat their rivals. Turf War, a four-on-four team battle featuring new weapons and new and returning stages, is also a main mode.
A free global Splatoon 3 event, the Splatoon 3: Splatfest World Premiere demo, will take place on Aug. 27. This event will give players a taste of what to expect from the game before its official release.
In addition to the traditional Turf War mode, Splatoon 3 offers a variety of other modes. Anarchy Battles feature objective-based battles with four separate modes (Splat Zones, Tower Control, Rainmaker, and Clam Blitz) that rotate. X Battle and League Battle are planned for future updates in Splatoon 3. X Battle is unlocked after attaining an extremely high rank in Anarchy Battle, while League Battle allows players to compete every two hours in teams based on their Anarchy Battle results.
The game's three main modes include the all-new single-player Story Mode, 'Return of the Mammalians'. Players will embark on an adventure across the Splatlands, a desolate wasteland inhabited by the Mammalians, who have seized control of the Inkling's territory.
New special weapons in Splatoon 3 include the Tacticooler, Wave Breaker, and Reefslider. Familiar special weapons like Tenta Missiles, Inkjet, Ink Storm, Ultra Stamp, and Booyah Bomb are also returning. Special weapons in Splatoon 3 are paired with main weapons, allowing players to find a combo that suits their playing style.
The revamped Salmon Run, a co-op mode, now adds giant, dangerous bosses to the mix. Recurring multiplayer events called Splatfests are returning with a twist, featuring Tricolor Turf War battles.
Players can customise Splashtags with a title, background, and badge in Splatoon 3. These can be obtained via the in-game catalog. The catalog in Splatoon 3 will be available at Hotlantis, a general store on the edge of Splatsville. Players can exchange points earned from battles for various items.
A special edition Splatoon 3 themed Nintendo Switch - OLED Model system will be available in stores on Aug. 26. It includes a set of one blue and one yellow gradient Joy-Con controllers with white underbellies and a white, graffiti-themed Nintendo Switch dock.
After the game launches, a free in-game season catalog will be distributed every three months for two years. Additional weapons will also be added around the same time as each in-game catalog. Large-scale paid DLC is also planned for the future in Splatoon 3. More details will be shared at a later date.
SplatNet 3 is an online service for Splatoon 3 within the Nintendo Switch Online app that can be used with a smart device. It contains features like checking battle records, ordering special in-game gear from the SplatNet Gear Shop, and much more. The Splatsville lobby in Splatoon 3 features online friends as 3D holograms, easy team formation, and a Memory Player that can replay recent battles.
New Splatoon 3 amiibo figures are arriving this holiday, including separate amiibo figures for Inkling (Yellow), Octoling (Blue), and Smallfry. Scanning the amiibo in-game will allow players to save their favourite gear combinations as Fresh Fits to easily swap outfits.
