Futterkamp Driving Tournament: A Successful Third Edition

Mid-July saw the third edition of the Futterkamp Driving Tournament take place on the LVZ Futterkamp grounds, attracting a multitude of horse enthusiasts and top athletes. The event, managed by Katja Wagner from the Teaching and Research Center Futterkamp, featured driving tests for ponies to horses and from single to four-in-hand.

Notably high was the participation in the youth tests, with many young drivers showcasing their skills. Among the participants were top athletes Anna Mareike Meier, World Champion in four-in-hand, and Ulrike Schmidt from Ascheberg, who both took part with young horses.

The tournament culminated in the award ceremonies for the cross-country day, marking the conclusion of the two-day event. In the horse single county championship, Uta Bünz from Högsdorf emerged victorious, while Holger Wohlert from Pratjau claimed the pony pair county championship.

A significant milestone was reached as the Riding Association Plön awarded championship titles for pony four-in-hand drivers for the first time. Teresa Lamp from Brodersdorf made history by becoming the first county champion of pony four-in-hand drivers in the Riding Association Plön and also won the club championship in class A 2025. Lamp's impressive performance saw her take first place in the dressage and cross-country four-in-hand, and she placed second in cone driving.

The competition was fierce, with many local competitors vying for the county championship titles. Almost all the titles remained near Futterkamp, with the single pony championship title going to Anika Stoldt from Lübeck. In the closely contested battle for the county and club championships between Ulrike Schmidt and Anna Mareike Meier, Schmidt came out on top.

The first day of the tournament included dressage and cone driving, while the second day featured a cross-country test with routes of around seven kilometers. The cross-country test had three or four fixed obstacles for young drivers and four for experienced drivers.

Steffi Ihlo, the Riding Association Plön chairwoman, presented the county championship awards, marking the end of another successful Futterkamp Driving Tournament. The event, while less well-known, continues to attract top athletes and enthusiasts, showcasing the passion for driving in the region.

Horse-racing and sports were prominently displayed during the third edition of the Futterkamp Driving Tournament, as many participants engaged in high-speed racing competitions, reminiscent of car racing, on the cross-country test tracks. Top athletes like Teresa Lamp from Brodersdorf, who won the pony four-in-hand county championship, excelled in these racing events, demonstrating the growing popularity of horse racing alongside traditional sports like horse-racing.
