Speeding Ticket Penalty for Omar Sy in Switzerland Already Paid
In the summer of 2023, renowned actor Omar Sy, best known for his role in "Intouchables," faced the consequences of repeated speeding violations near Geneva. According to French newspaper 20 Minutes, the first infraction occurred on July 19, when he was clocked at 92 km/h on a road with a 50 km/h limit. The following day, he was caught speeding again, this time at 98 km/h on a 60 km/h road. Both instances exceeded the limit by more than 30 km/h (not accounting for the 5 km/h tolerance).
Ignoring multiple reminders from Swiss authorities, the Geneva prosecutor's office confirmed that Sy was, indeed, the owner of the vehicle in question. Due to a lack of documentation to prove otherwise, or to identify other possible drivers, the prosecutor's office asserted that Sy was the responsible party for the offenses.
As a result, the Swiss Public Prosecutor's Office imposed a fine on the 46-year-old actor. The sum, based on his personal and economic circumstances, amounted to 105 days at 300 Swiss francs per day, totaling over 30,000 Swiss francs (approximately 30,880 euros) with a three-year suspended sentence. Immediately, Sy was fined 6,300 Swiss francs (6,500 euros) and also had to cover the procedure costs equivalent to 270 euros.
It's worth noting that this is not the first time the actor from the successful French series "Lupin" has been caught speeding. In 2008, Sy was apprehended for speeding in the Yvelines at 185 km/h instead of 110 km/h. The speed was later reduced to 175 km/h, resulting in the forfeiture of his motorcycle.
Swiss law imposes strict penalties for speeding, with fines and punishments determined by the extent of the speed limit excess. Repeated offenses can lead to License suspension and increased insurance premiums, as well as potential legal consequences if the speeding is deemed reckless endangerment. The frequency and severity of previous offenses can also impact future penalties for any individual, including Omar Sy, if they are caught speeding again.
Actions taken against Omar Sy, the "Intouchables" actor, escalated due to repeated speeding violations in the summer of 2023, with instances of exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 km/h. His entanglement with crime-and-justice matters extended from the general-news category to entertainment, as his high-profile status in the entertainment industry was affected by these offenses.
