In Germany, excessive speeding comes with severe consequences. Common penalties for speeding include monetary fines, points on the driver's license, and driving bans, depending on the severity of the speed excess.

For example, speeding up to 10 km/h over the limit results in fines starting at €20 to €30. However, as the speed excess increases, so do the penalties. Speeding between 21-25 km/h over the limit incurs fines of €100-115, plus 1 point on the driver's license.

If a driver speeds between 26-30 km/h over the limit, the fine rises to €150-180, with 1 point on the driver's license and a 1-month driving ban. For higher excesses, such as 31-40 km/h over the limit, the fines increase (€200+), along with more points on the driver's license and longer driving bans (up to 3 months).

Extreme cases of speeding over 70 km/h above the limit lead to fines of up to €800, 2 points, and a 3-month ban.

Recent cases demonstrate that penalties escalate substantially with the degree of speeding, and reckless high speeds lead to heavy fines and license suspensions. For instance, a driver caught speeding at an astounding 199 mph (about 320 km/h) on an autobahn received a fine exceeding €900, multiple points, and several months of license suspension.

A 27-year-old driver in Germany recently learned this lesson the hard way. On Friday evening at around 10:20 PM, the driver was measured at 178 km/h, which is 98 km/h over the permitted speed limit of 80 km/h, on the B45 federal highway near Tannenmühle roundabout.

Two points will be entered in the Flensburg driving behavior register for the driver, and they are expected to receive a fine of 1,400 euros. The driver will also face a three-month driving ban. The vehicle involved was a 27-year-old Audi.

Strict penalties are expected for the driver due to the speeding violation, and they will undergo an administrative offense procedure. The driver's reckless behavior could have had severe consequences for other road users, and the speed measurement was conducted using court-admissible technology by a police civil vehicle. Even with deducted tolerances, the extreme excess speed is confirmed.

Sports headlines: A German driver faces severe penalties in general-news after being caught speeding at 178 km/h, over 98 km/h above the limit, on the B45 federal highway. The transport violation will likely result in a fine of €1,400, two points on the driver's license, and a three-month driving ban. The incident underscores the escalating penalties for excessive speeding in crime-and-justice cases, with reckless high speeds leading to heavy fines and license suspensions as demonstrated by previous cases.
