A 27-year-old driver from Fulda is facing strict penalties after being caught speeding excessively on the B45 federal highway near Tannenmühle roundabout, heading towards Dieburg. The incident, reported by the South East Hesse Police Headquarters, occurred on Friday evening at approximately 22:20 PM.

According to the report, the driver was measured traveling at a speed of 178 km/h, which is 98 km/h over the permitted speed limit of 80 km/h. This extreme excess speed, confirmed despite deducted tolerances, led to the driver being caught using court-admissible technology by a police civil vehicle.

The administrative penalties for the speeding violation have been specified: the driver is expected to receive a fine of 1,400 euros, face a three-month driving ban, and have two points added to their Flensburg driving record. The exact nature of these penalties has not been updated since the earlier report.

Excessive speeding in Germany typically results in steep fines, driver’s license points, and bans lasting 1-3 months depending on the amount by which the speed limit is exceeded. For speeds over 70 km/h above the limit, fines reach around €700–€800, with 2 points on the license and a 3-month driving ban.

In Germany's penalty point system ("Flensburg"), accumulating points can lead to a license suspension if reaching 8 points, so excessive speeding adds significant risk beyond just the immediate fines and bans. Real examples include a driver caught driving at 321 km/h who was fined €900, given 2 penalty points, and suspended for 3 months, and another driver going 199 mph (approximately 320 km/h), fined about $1,043 (approximately €900), with 2 points and a 3-month ban.

The driver's reckless behavior could have posed severe risks to other road users. The administrative penalties are applicable to the driver, and they are currently undergoing an administrative offense procedure.
