Stuttgart's Star Goalie, Alexander Nübel, Faces Bayern Munich in Exciting Clash
On Sunday evening (7:30 pm, DAZN), Alexander Nübel will square off against his former employers, Bayern Munich, in a tantalizing Bundesliga showdown. This time, Nübel is determined to prove himself with VfB Stuttgart, as opposed to being in the shadow of Manuel Neuer while at Bayern. Although Nübel signed with Bayern in 2020 with dreams of becoming the number one, his contract binds him to the German powerhouse until the summer of 2025.
As a former FC Schalke 04 prodigy, Nübel struggled for chances to shine at Bayern, often relegated to backup status in favor of Neuer. As a result, he ventured to AS Monaco on loan for two years before moving to VfB Stuttgart last summer.
Stuttgart's Interim Coach Sebastian Hoeneß has lauded the 27-year-old's contributions to their surge in form, crediting Nübel for his game-shaping abilities, defensive prowess, and versatility as a presence on the wings. Hoeneß is confident that Nübel's energy and determination as a team player will play an instrumental role when they face Bayern in Munich.
Is Nübel the future German national team's number one goalkeeper?
At VfB Stuttgart, Nübel has managed to assert himself as a strong option in the debate over who will be the next German goalkeeping titan. According to VfB CEO Alexander Wehrle, Nübel won't be easily outdone in the long run in the national team's ranks. Coincidingly, Hoeneß offered his support for Nübel's aspirations, expressing belief that when healthy and consistent, Nübel will seize his opportunity.
Since Neuer extended his contract at Bayern beyond the current season, it is highly unlikely that Nübel will return to his old position there. VfB has shown interest in maintaining Nübel beyond the summer, but this would likely only be achievable if young Nübel agrees to extend his Bayern contract by a year beforehand. In the event of a successful outcome, Bayern would benefit from receiving a transfer fee in 2025 if Nübel leaves for another club.
"No matter the time, I am prepared to travel to Munich for negotiations," Wehrle announced confidently. Currently, it seems challenging for VfB to finance a permanent deal for Nübel if there is no agreement on his future at Bayern first.
