In a bustling gathering at the Grobenzell citizen's house, the local SPD has picked their candidate for the upcoming 2026 municipal elections. Gregor von Uckermann, a 35-year-old powerhouse, is set to reclaim the top spot in Grobenzell's town hall, promising a fresh start for the town.
Grobenzell Rising
With political heavyweights in attendance, the Grobenzell SPD elected Gregor von Uckermann unanimously as their mayoral candidate. The vibrant gathering proved that political involvement can be not just necessary, but fun too.
Michael Schrodi, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Finance since May, shared memories of his and the candidate's Juso days. He highlighted von Uckermann's dedication, which started back in 2005 and continues today. "It's time for Grobenzell to get back on its feet, and Gregor is the man for the job," Schrodi declared, handing him a pair of red SPD boxing gloves for a symbolic left hook.
A fellow council member, Axel von Walter, formally proposed von Uckermann. He emphasized the need for a fresh start and a dedicated candidate who understands community needs. Sonja Scherzinger, the local group chairwoman, felt that the evening's first piano piece by Micael Gelius was a perfect fit – Schumann's "Aufschwung" (Uplift).
A Bright Future Awaits
Gregor von Uckermann vowed to build on the support he received during his inaugural speech. He emphasized his ambitious thematic priorities of childcare, housing construction, and social structures. He voiced concerns over past town council decisions that he argued have threatened community cohesion and the need for strong political leadership.
Von Uckermann also drew on his experiences as a football referee – having learned patience, unbiased decision-making, and humility in the face of criticism – qualities he believes are invaluable for a mayor.
Recognizing Success
Ronja Endres, SPD state chairwoman, addressed the assembly, emphasizing the importance of countering the current trend of dissatisfaction with democratic structures. "In the municipalities, people notice first when something isn't working – when the train is late or the next doctor’s office closes," Endres stated. She lauded von Uckermann as an "engaged, young candidate" who has shown a knack for reaching out to the people.
During the event, Endres honored several SPD members, including mayoral candidate Gregor von Uckermann for his 20 years of service, Axel von Walter for his 25 years, Andrea Schuster for her 35 years, and Wolfgang Weigelt for his 55 years. Additionally, new Juso member Christopher Quast received his party membership book.
