Crafting a Gala Night in Neuss: SPD Unveils Plans and Highlights Achievements

Welcoming the bustling crowd with open arms, Rosemarie Franken-Weyers — the head of SPD (Social Democratic Party) in Neuss — radiated a warm smile. The diverse gathering, which included faces from politics, administration, business, education, sports, and culture — as well as staunch supporters of local traditions — all shared a common trait: a genuine interest and engagement in the city's well-being.

Franken-Weyers felt a sense of joy and satisfaction, especially as she recognized several individuals who had been drawn in to the SPD fold by the thought-provoking "SPD Neuss in Dialogue" conversation series.

The vibrant atmosphere hummed with anticipation, punctuated by the clinking of glasses and laughter. Guests relished a delightful spread, networking opportunities, and an engaging program geared towards the upcoming elections.

Mayor Reiner Breuer's speech was a heartening address, envisioning Neuss in 2030 as a metropolis that remained a sanctuary of safety, sociability, and modernity. Breuer aimed to nudge the city into Germany's top ten with the highest quality of life. Such aspirations came adorned with the promise of a thriving city following the Landesgartenschau, more budget-friendly housing solutions, creative revamping of the former Kaufhof building into a bustling market-like space, and a slick new city bath erected by Stadtwerke Neuss on the Wendersplatz.

Earlier in the evening, Sascha Karbowiak, the SPD Neuss faction leader, harked back to the projects and initiatives they had implemented since clinching the 2020 local election, despite the obstacles posed by shifting political alliances after the 2022 split of the Neusser Greens. The list included tireless advocacy for affordable housing, boosted investments in schools and kindergartens, heightened social care in the city, and strengthening the city's sports and security sectors. The proverbial cherry on top was the successful Landesgartenschau 2026 bid.

Daniel Rinkert, representing SPD in the Bundestag (Germany's federal parliament), also addressed the gathering, discussing the impending federal election. Over the years, he successfully secured significant grants for the city of Neuss, including a substantial sum for the Quirinus Monument's renovation, considerable funds for the Museumsinsel Hombroich, and resources for Neusser main station's modernization in preparation for the Landesgartenschau.

The royal couple dropped by, presenting accolades and gracing the gathering with a polonaise performance. DJ Titschy serenaded the attendees with the current session anthem.

Lastly, Schützenkönig Bert Römgens concluded the evening by collecting donations for the "Wärme schenken" (Warm Hearts) campaign by "Neuss hilft" (Neuss Helps), managing to raise close to €1,300 for the medical needs of Neuss' homeless population.

Other attendees, beyond those from politics and general-news, included individuals from various sectors such as administration, business, education, sports, and culture, all showing keen interest in the city's development and future.

Discussing the upcoming federal election, Daniel Rinkert, representing SPD in Bundestag, mentioned his achievements in securing funds for Neuss, furthering conversations about general-news topics and political matters.
