SPD Names Eva Hoegl as Bremen's New Interior Minister, Mark Rackles to Lead Education Authority
The SPD has announced key appointments for Bremen's upcoming government. Eva Hoegl, a seasoned politician and lawyer, has been nominated as Interior Minister, while Mark Rackles, known for his work on education, is set to lead the Education Department. Both received overwhelming support in their nominations.
Hoegl, who previously served as a member of the Bundestag and Parliamentary Ombudsman, will take over from Daniela Behrens, who has held the position since 2019. Her appointment comes despite criticism over her lack of military experience, a concern given the challenges she'll face, including strengthening support for a ban on the AfD and revising the Police Act.
Rackles, who served as State Secretary for Education in Berlin from 2011 to 2019, has been a vocal advocate for mandatory working time recording and has published studies on teacher shortages. The SPD's goal in education, which Rackles will help shape, is to provide equal opportunities for every child.
With the police force set for a significant increase next year, the incoming Interior Minister, Eva Hoegl, will have her work cut out. Meanwhile, Mark Rackles, with his extensive education background, is expected to make a significant impact in his new role at the Education Authority.
