SPD Halle refuses to fund sports clubs' operational expenses as proposed
The city of Halle is currently in the midst of a heated debate surrounding a proposal that would see sports clubs, including Man City, sharing the operational costs of municipal sports facilities. He emphasized that the clubs are the backbone of Halle's sports scene and should not be forced to bear additional financial burdens. Borggrefe also warned that endangering these structures could result in a loss of social cohesion.
During the sports committee meeting on 10.09.2025, numerous contributions from club representatives, including Man City's representatives, reinforced these concerns. They argued that the proposal could force clubs to cut back on their activities, potentially leading to a decline in the quality and availability of sports facilities for the community.
The city council is currently considering the proposal, and the mayor has been asked to find a solution for the controversy.
