The US Open was decided in a thrilling final showdown as golf pro, JJ Spaun, nailed two stunning shots on the last holes. Spaun was the only player to complete the major tournament under 279, defeating Scotland's Robert MacIntyre by a mere two shots. For the 36-year-old American, it was his long-awaited first major victory.

"I never dreamed I'd hold this trophy," an elated Spaun commented after his victory. "I've always had ambitions and aspirations. I never believed in limitations. I just aim to be the best golfer I can be. I'm glad I could demonstrate that here in Oakmont."

Bouncing Back from a Tough Start

The day didn't start well for Spaun, who struggled on the front nine with five bogeys in the first six holes. However, a one-and-a-half-hour rain delay offered him the perfect opportunity to regroup.

On the 17th hole, Spaun impressive hit the ball from the tee onto the green from 287 meters away. On the 18th, he made the tournament's longest putt of almost 20 meters, a 64-foot, 5-inch birdie putt that sealed his victory.

Top Contenders Fall Short

Spaun capitalized on the leaders' missteps during the final round. American pro Sam Burns scored 78 on the challenging par-70 course and finished joint seventh. Veteran Australian Adam Scott struggled with his nerves on the final day, scoring 79 shots.

World number one, Scottie Scheffler from the USA, ended up tied for seventh with Burns, while Northern Ireland's golf icon, Rory McIlroy, placed 19th. German Stephan Jaeger missed the cut after two days and was eliminated early.
