Sparks' Cameron Brink out for 2025 WNBA season opener with ACL injury

Get ready for the LA Sparks' 2025 WNBA season kickoff against the Golden State Valkyries, but don't expect to see Cameron Brink on the court. The rookie star is still recovering from an ACL tear, sidelining her for the season opener.

Coach Lynne Roberts updated fans on Brink’s recovery, describing her as "working hard" and "integrated" with the team. "We're listening to the doctors and following their recommendations," Roberts said, adding that Brink "looks great."

Brink's Journey to Healing

Drafted second overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Cameron Brink quickly became a promising player for the Sparks. Starting from her first game, she showed impressive stats, averaging 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and 2.3 blocks[4].

With 2.3 blocked shots per game, Brink ended the season at second place league-wide in this category, behind only A'ja Wilson[4]. Before the injury, she appeared to be on track for an All-Defensive First Team spot[3].

This week at media day, an upbeat Brink shared some insight into her recovery process and other activities keeping her occupied off the court, as reported by the media. "I've been crafting and hanging out with my fiancé and dog to help me relax during my recovery," she said[2].

With her aim on returning as the starting center for the Sparks, Brink will bring back her perennial All-Defensive presence when she's ready to play[4]. The team will be counting on her to boost their playoff chances.

Stay tuned for updates on Cameron Brink’s recovery and the LA Sparks 2025 WNBA season!

Note: Cameron Brink's recovery timeline suggests she will miss the start of the season and likely return before the WNBA All-Star break in June[1][2]. Her health is crucial to the Sparks' playoff prospects[4].

Despite Cameron Brink's drafted status in the 2024 WNBA Draft, her promising basketball career with the LA Sparks took a halt when she suffered an ACL injury. This means she will be absent during the team's 2025 season opener in basketball, typically scheduled against the Golden State Valkyries.
