Span's 2025 Vuelta a España course – brutal climbs at Angliru, Bola del Mundo, and a third-week ITT unveiled with stage particulars disclosed

The 2025 Vuelta a España route is set to offer an exciting and challenging competition for cyclists, featuring a diverse range of terrains and a strong emphasis on mountain challenges and time trials.

The Grand Tour will commence in the beautiful city of Turin, Italy, marking a cross-border beginning with three stages in Italy. The first flat opening stage will take place in Turin, a city that has the distinction of hosting stages of all three Grand Tours (Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, Vuelta a España), making it the second city in Grand Tour history to achieve this feat [2].

The route covers 21 stages over more than 3,100 kilometers, traversing four countries: Italy, Spain, France, and Andorra [3][5]. There are 10 summit finishes in total, providing a challenging mountain terrain focus [2]. These mountain stages include high mountain climbs and hilly finishes such as the uphill finish at Limone Piemonte on stage 2, marking the first summit finish [2][3].

The race features both an individual time trial and a team time trial, adding tactical variety [2][5]. For example, stage 5 is a 24.1 km team time trial from Fugueres to Figueres [1].

The route includes a mix of terrain types: four flat stages, six medium mountain stages, five high mountain stages, and three hilly stages with high-altitude finales [5].

Two rest days are included to help riders recover over the three-week race [5].

One of the highlights of the 2025 Vuelta is the inclusion of the mythical Angliru, which will feature in stage 12 [2]. This stage is a gruelling 202.7km from Cabezón de la Sal to L'Angliru.

Another notable stage is stage 17, which has an individual time trial of 27.2km in Valladolid (Stage 18) [1].

The race will conclude with stage 21, a 111.6km ride from Alalpardo to Madrid [1].

Overall, the 2025 Vuelta a España combines a rare Italian start with a strong emphasis on mountain challenges and time trials, promising an intense and varied competition [1][2][3][5].

Some of the other stages include: - Stage 1, which starts in the picturesque town of Robledo de Chavela and finishes at Bola del Mundo, with a challenging climb at Puerto de Navacerrada [1][3] - Stage 11, a 144.9km ride from Laredo to Los Corrales de Buelna [1] - Stage 14, a 167.8km ride from Veiga/Vegadeo to Monforte de Lemos [1] - Stage 15, a 167.9km ride from Poio to Mos.Castro de Herville [1] - Stage 16, a 143.2km ride from O Barco de Valdeorras to Alto de El Morredero, finishing in Ponferrada [1] - Stage 19, a 161.9km ride from Rueda to Guijuelo [1] - Stage 20, a 165.6km ride from Robledo de Chavela to Bola del Mundo, featuring another challenging climb at Puerto de Navacerrada [1][3] - Stage 9, a 175.3km ride from Parque de la Naturaleza Sendaviva to El Ferial Larra Belagua [1] - Stage 13, a 135.9km ride from Avilés to Alto de La Farrapona, Lagos de Somiedo [1]
