Spanish regions on August 5th face heat alerts due to high temperatures

Scorching Heatwave Grips Spain, Temperatures Soar Above 40°C

Spain is currently experiencing a prolonged heatwave, with temperatures reaching extreme levels across various regions. The second heatwave of the summer has been affecting the country since last Sunday, and it is expected to last until at least Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

The regions of Andalusia and Extremadura are expected to experience the highest temperatures, reaching up to 45°C. The Guadiana and Guadalquivir valleys are especially impacted, with temperatures likely to surpass 42°C. Regions such as Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, and parts of Murcia are forecasted to see maximum temperatures between 40°C and 42°C.

Much of southern Galicia and the southern and western inland areas of the mainland will see temperatures soaring above 40°C. In Catalonia, the orange alert level is focused on the Ampurdan region (Girona), where temperatures could rise to 37 degrees.

The persistence of the heatwave, combined with low humidity and wind in certain areas, maintains the risk of fires at extreme levels in much of the northern peninsula and in areas of the south and southeast. Three other regions: Canary Islands, Aragon, and Murcia have a yellow alert for high temperatures. In the Canary Islands, the yellow alert is limited to the island of Gran Canaria, where temperatures are forecast to reach 34 degrees.

The State Meteorological Agency has activated the orange alert in seven regions: Andalusia, Castile and Leon, Castile-La Mancha, Catalonia, Extremadura, Galicia, and the Community of Madrid. In many places in the province of Pontevedra, the same alert level has been activated.

Nighttime temperatures will also be high, with minimums not expected to drop below 23ºC to 25ºC in the center, south, and Mediterranean coast, resulting in so-called "tropical nights." On the Mediterranean coast, minimum temperatures could reach up to 26°C, especially in Almería.

Warnings remain active with forecasts indicating the heatwave will last at least until Wednesday, August 13, 2025, after which a thermal drop is expected, though heat will persist in a less extreme form. Authorities insist on taking extreme precautions in rural and forest areas, as the risk of fires remains high.

Stay tuned for updates as we continue to monitor the situation. In the meantime, please take care and stay safe in the extreme heat.
