Spanish Congress dismisses Vox's proposal to condemn Marlaska amidst escalating insecurity in Spain
In a series of events in the Spanish Parliament, the far-right political party Vox has been at the forefront of proposing significant changes, particularly in the areas of foreign policy and immigration.
On a controversial note, Vox has guaranteed the approval of a decree for an embargo on weapons to Israel, scheduled for next Tuesday. However, Rufián, a party member, has admitted a delay in the process and urged continued pressure to expedite the decision. On the other hand, Robles, another party member, has denied putting "objections" to the embargo and considers the industrial link with Israel "supervised."
In domestic politics, Vox has been vocal about its concerns regarding immigration. The party has proposed the repatriation of unaccompanied foreign minors to their countries of origin and the immediate expulsion of all illegal immigrants found in Spain, as well as legal ones who commit serious crimes. Vox has also called for the closure of centers for the accommodation of illegal immigrants and the prohibition of support for NGOs associated with human trafficking and illegal immigration.
The party has criticised the open-door policy to illegal immigration encouraged and promoted by the PP and PSOE, and has urged the Government to promote measures to combat crime related to massive illegal immigration. Vox has also demanded protection of women from sexual assaults and rejection of cultural practices incompatible with the Spanish culture.
Moreover, Vox has requested regulatory reforms to ensure loss of Spanish nationality for crimes against the Constitution, public order, national independence, and defense, and for actions against the international community. The party has also called on the Government to politically disable those who exalt terrorism, as the PP is currently processing a law in the Senate.
However, the Congress' full chamber has rejected a motion to censure the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaska. The proposal came after accusations of negligent action in ensuring security, but the Government views the criticisms from Podemos as unjust.
The motion was proposed by Vox due to the perceived poor management and lack of diligence in fighting insecurity in Spain. Vox has also claimed that there is fraud in the census allowing immigrants to access benefits and social aid. The party has also advocated for the closure of existing centers for illegal immigrants in favor of street safety.
In response to these proposals and motions, the Government has yet to issue a formal response. The unfolding events in the Spanish Parliament continue to shape the country's immigration and foreign policies.
