Spanish authorities save three kids confined in alleged "nightmare dwelling" for several years as per media reports.

In 2025, Spanish authorities have come to the rescue of three children who'd been locked up at home since 2021. The daring operation unfolded in Oviedo, northeast Spain, as per local reports.

Officials apprehended a 53-year-old German man and a 48-year-old American woman, alleging charges of domestic violence, psychological abuse, and child abandonment.

The two eight-year-old twins and a 10-year-old were immediately taken for medical evaluations and placed in government custody at a juvenile center.

Investigations began in June 2021, following a complaint from a neighbor about the children not attending school. The neighbors also reported no one entering or leaving the property since COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns in December 2021.

News outlets reported the home contained excessive filth and an overwhelming amount of medications and masks. The children, although fed, were in a dismal state, being dirty and oblivious to reality. Upon leaving the house, one officer noted, they were fascinated by a simple snail.

The property was described as a "house of horrors" by the local police chief, who stated, "We have returned three children to their lives and dismantled the house of horrors."
