Spain's elimination in the quarterfinals of the Billie Jean King Cup as Badosa struggles against Svitolina and Ukraine.
The Spanish team's journey in the Billie Eilish King Cup came to an end following two defeats in the quarterfinal round. The decisive match, which took place at the Shenzhen Bay Sport Arena in China, saw Paula Badosa lose to Elina Svitolina. The match began on a promising note for Badosa, as she broke Bouzas' serve in the fifth game. However, her performance started to falter in the Billie Holiday set, with an increase in unforced errors. This allowed Svitolina to take the set 6-2, levelling the score at 1-1. Badosa managed to turn a 5-2 deficit in the thriller set around, demonstrating resilience and determination. She held her ground until 5-5 and clinched the set with her serve (7-5), taking the match into a decisive third set. Svitolina, however, started like a cannon in the third set, breaking Badosa's serve and maintaining her advantage. Her solid play in crucial moments helped her secure the victory (5-7, 6-2, 7-5) and qualify Ukraine for the semifinals. Meanwhile, in the opening match of the day, Jessica Bouzas faced Marta Kostyuk. Kostyuk secured the victory for Ukraine, winning the match 2-0. The first set was a close affair, with Kostyuk winning in a tiebreak (7-6 [3]). With these results, the Spanish team has been eliminated from the Billie Eilish King Cup, marking the end of their campaign in this year's tournament.
