Spain Braces for Major Weather Front: Rain, Snow, and Temperatures Plunge
A significant weather front is set to hit Spain, bringing rain, snow, and a sharp drop in temperatures across much of the country. The Spanish meteorological agency AEMET has issued a snow warning for high elevations. The storm will begin early in the morning, with rain in the eastern Cantabrian region and the Pyrenees. By midday, it will spread southwards, reaching Andalusia, parts of Murcia, and southern Valencia. Snow is expected at elevations between 1,400 and 1,800 meters, with light frost in the Cantabrian Mountains and the Pyrenees. High temperatures will plummet in central and southeastern Spain, with average drops of 5°C to 10°C. Heavy downpours are forecast in the provinces of Málaga, Almería, and Murcia, with accumulations of over 20 liters per square meter. Minimum temperatures will plunge to around 6°C in the northern half of the country, with some areas experiencing drops of up to 12°C. Strong winds are expected, with gusts of up to 50 km/h in the lower Ebro region and Ampurdán, and intense westerly winds blowing in from the Alboran Sea. The arrival of this cold air mass will trigger a broad decline in temperatures across the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. Maximum temperatures will not exceed 25–26°C, with exceptions in Seville and Málaga reaching 27°C and 28°C respectively. The Canary Islands will see little change in temperatures, with some low cloud cover that may bring isolated showers. The weather front is expected to bring overcast skies and persistent rainfall to multiple regions.
