Latest Political Landscape in Germany Shows Stability and Tension
In the latest RTL/ntv Trendbarometer by Forsa, conducted in early August 2025, the political landscape of Germany remains tense yet stable. The CDU/CSU (Union) and the Alternative for Germany (AfD) are neck and neck, each securing 25% of the vote, a slight decline for the CDU/CSU by one percentage point and a gain of one point for the AfD.
The SPD, Greens, Left Party, BSW, and FDP have held steady in their poll percentages, with the BSW experiencing a modest rise of one point since May 2025. Meanwhile, the "Others" category remains unchanged at 6%.
When it comes to individual politicians' approval ratings, Boris Pistorius, Hendrik Wüst, and Thorsten Frei are currently leading the pack. Pistorius maintains the top spot with 61 trust points, followed closely by Wüst with 53 points and Frei with 42 points each.
Boris Pistorius, the incumbent Chancellor Olaf Scholz's Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of the Interior, has managed to hold onto the number one spot despite not being listed in the top ten in this ranking.
Significant shifts have occurred within the parties. Bärbel Bas, who was previously in third place, has dropped to fourth with 41 trust points. Lars Klingbeil, who was in fifth place, has fallen to eighth with 37 points. Katherina Reiche, a member of the Union party, has experienced the biggest trust loss within her own party, with a decrease of 9 points.
Jens Spahn, a prominent member of the CDU, has suffered the biggest trust loss overall, with a decrease of 7 points. His score is now 32 points, placing him in the fourth-to-last position. Spahn has also experienced a significant trust loss within his own party, with a decrease of 12 points.
Markus Söder is in fifth place with 39 points, while Sahra Wagenknecht and Alice Weidel, both from the AfD, have 16 points, higher than Spahn's score. Alexander Dobrindt and Julia Klöckner tie for eleventh place with 31 points each.
Friedrich Merz is in sixth place with 38 points, and Matthias Miersch is in ninth place with 34 points. Heidi Reichinnek is in tenth place with 32 points.
