Spacebound Debut of Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran Declines Offer to Perform in Space
Popular British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has turned down an offer to perform in space, citing safety concerns and a desire to be present for his young daughters.
In an interview with BBC Radio 2, reported late in 2022 or early 2023, Sheeran revealed that he was offered the opportunity to perform in space by spaceflight organisers, but he declined due to fear and concern for his children. The offer did not come from a specific person or company.
Sheeran, who has two daughters with his wife Cherry Seaborn (the first born in 2020 and the second in 2022), expressed that he did not want to risk not being there for his children. The space flight in question, which took place in April, was not a performance by Sheeran, contrary to any potential misconceptions.
The space flight, which lasted for a few minutes in zero gravity, was organised by Jeff Bezos and involved Katy Perry, Lauren Sánchez, Gayle King, and some scientists. Gayle King reported that Perry sang Louis Armstrong's "What a wonderful World" on the rocket.
It is worth noting that the space flight did not involve Ed Sheeran, as he declined the offer. Furthermore, the space flight did not aim to set a Guinness World Record, as Sheeran has previously stated he is not interested in such records.
Sheeran has also made it clear that he is not interested in setting a Guinness World Record, and he does not seem to be pursuing any space-related endeavours at this time. Instead, he remains focused on his music and family life.
