Space Marine's Redesign in Warhammer 40,000: A Renewed Edition Is Officially Announced
Hear that, Space Marines? You've got a reason to pull your bolters out once again! Set a year since its sequel's arrival, the original Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, is back on the modern gaming scene.
With the talented hands of port developers SneakyBox at the helm, the definitive, "Master Crafted Edition" of the third-person shooter is here. Head honcho, Vaidas Mikelskas, describes this update as a thoughtful restoration, a meaningful dialogue between the past and the present. Its goal? To preserve what made the original special, while giving it a fresh luster to attract a new generation of players.
The revamp comes complete with graphical updates, a modernized UI and control scheme. You can expect a visual overhaul for the Orks, making them align better with their current visual identity in the Warhammer 40k universe. The Master Crafted Edition also boasts a whopping over 100 fresh voice lines to spice things up!
Originally developed by Relic Entertainment in 2011, the debut Space Marine garnered generally favorable reviews. Despite two planned sequels, the series hit a roadblock when its publisher THQ shuttered down. Enter Sega, who snagged Relic and re-released the game on PC in 2021. Fast forward to 2024, and Saber Interactive stepped in to develop the sequel, which received positive reviews. Currently, it has a follow-up in the works too!
For now, the rights for the first Warhammer 40K: Space Marine remain with Sega. As of now, there's no PlayStation 5 version of the Master Crafted Edition on the horizon. If you can't wait to join the action, snag the game on PC, Xbox Series X|S, or Xbox Game Pass, launching June 10.
