In an interview, producer Vaidas Mikelskas described the update as a painstaking restoration, a harmonious blend of the past and present that respects the original's unique charm while giving it a dazzling makeover for a new wave of gamers.
Apart from the cosmetic visual updates and a sleek, contemporary UI and control scheme, this revamped Space Marine comes with a thrilling visual upgrade for the Orks, aligning them with their contemporary appearances in the Warhammer canon, plus over 100 fresh voice lines to enhance the gaming experience.
The original Space Marine, developed by Relic Entertainment, saw the light of day back in 2011, receiving widely positive reviews. Despite plans for two sequels, these projects ultimately disintegrated following the shuttering of the game's publisher, THQ. Sega later acquired Relic and re-released the game on PC in 2021. A year later, Saber Interactive took up the mantle to develop the sequel, which was released by publisher Focus Entertainment in 2024 to appreciative reviews, with another installment already in production.
Sega currently retains the rights for the first Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, but as of now, hasn't announced a PlayStation 5 version of the Master Crafted Edition.
