Space Marine in the Warhammer 40,000 series is Set for a Long-Awaited Update
After a year since the launch of its sequel, the original "Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine" is set to make its return to modern gaming. SneakyBox, the game's port developer, has announced a "Master Crafted Edition" update, which the producer, Vaidas Mikelskas, described as a "thoughtful restoration that bridges the gap between past and present, preserving the original's unique charm while modernizing it for a new generation of players."
The revamped version of the third-person shooter will feature improved graphics, a modern user interface, and a redesigned control scheme. Additionally, Orks have received a visual upgrade to align them with their current appearance in the franchise's canon, while over 100 new voice lines have been added.
Originally developed by Relic Entertainment, the first "Space Marine" was released in 2011 to generally favorable reviews. Following its launch, it was planned for two sequels, but those projects never materialized due to the closure of THQ, the game's publisher. Sega acquired Relic Entertainment two years after THQ's shutdown and re-released the original game on PC in 2021.
The sequel, developed by Saber Interactive, was published by Focus Entertainment and received positive reviews when it was released in 2024, with a follow-up currently in development. Unfortunately, as of now, Sega has not announced a PlayStation 5 version of the Master Crafted Edition, leading to speculation about potential future announcements.
For gamers interested in playing the updated "Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine," they will have to do so on PC or Xbox Series X|S platforms on June 10, as the Master Crafted Edition will not be available on PlayStation 5 at launch. It will, however, be accessible via Xbox Game Pass and major PC storefronts.
