Space Marine Edition of Warhammer 40,000 receives long-awaited upgrade
In a notable development for gaming enthusiasts, the highly-anticipated "Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Master Crafted Edition" is set to grace modern gaming platforms, exclusively skipping the PlayStation 5. This announcement comes from SneakyBox, the port developers, who describe the update as a thoughtful restoration, bridging the gap between the past and the present while maintaining the original's unique charm.
The update brings a slew of improvements, including graphical enhancements, a modernized UI, and an updated control scheme. The Orks have received a visual update to align with their current franchise cannon, and over 100 new voice lines have been added.
First released in 2011 by Relic Entertainment, the original "Space Marine" received generally positive reviews. Despite plans for two sequels, their development ceased when the game's publisher, THQ, ceased operations. Two years later, Sega, who subsequently acquired Relic, re-released the game on PC. More recently, Saber Interactive took the reins to develop the sequel, which received strong reviews in 2024, with its own follow-up in the works.
Sega currently holds the rights to the first "Warhammer 40K: Space Marine," but has not announced a PlayStation 5 version of the Master Crafted Edition. As such, gamers will have to wait for its launch on PC and Xbox Series X|S, or use Xbox Game Pass, scheduled for June 10, 2025.
