Here we are, a year after its sequel took the stage, and the iconic Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is back, baby! But this isn't just any old re-release; no, SneakyBox has taken the reins to bring us the Master Crafted Edition-an intricate blend of the original charm and modern gaming brilliance.
According to producer Vaidas Mikelskas, this update is more than just a facelift-it's a "thoughtful restoration," a harmonious fusion of past and present that maintains the essence of the original while elevating it for a new generation of gamers. The list of improvements includes a graphical overhaul, a sleek, contemporary UI, a revamped control scheme, and over 100 new voice lines! Not to mention, the Orks have received a visual refresh to align them more closely with their current appearance in the Warhammer 40k universe.
Originally developed by Relic Entertainment and released in 2011, the original Space Marine received predominantly positive reviews. Tragically, plans for two sequels disintegrated when the game's publisher (THQ) shut down, leaving fans heartbroken. However, hope was not lost, as Sega swooped in and acquired Relic two years later, eventually re-release the game on PC in 2021.
Fast forward to 2024, and Saber Interactive announced it would be developing the sequel for publisher Focus Entertainment, which garnered strong reviews upon release. With its own follow-up in the works, it seems things are looking up for the Space Marine franchise.
As of now, the rights for the first Warhammer 40k: Space Marine remain with Sega, and no announcement has been made about a PlayStation 5 version of the Master Crafted Edition.
