In a significant development for gaming enthusiasts, the timeless third-person shooter, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, is gearing up for a modern revival. Dubbed the Master Crafted Edition, this updated version is the brainchild of port developer SneakyBox, promising a symbiotic fusion of yesteryear's charm and contemporary polish.
According to producer Vaidas Mikelskas, the update encapsulates a thoughtful restoration, carefully maintaining the essence of the original while catering to a new generation of gamers. The revamped Space Marine boasts graphical enhancements, a revamped user interface, and an adapted control scheme, in addition to a visual upgrade for the Orks, aligning them more accurately with their current visual identity in the franchise. Moreover, over 100 new voice lines have been incorporated to add depth and richness to the gameplay experience.
Originally developed by Relic Entertainment and released in 2011 with generally positive reviews, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine was destined for two sequels. However, these plans unraveled following the closure of the game's publisher, THQ. Two years later, Sega acquired Relic and re-released the game on PC. More recently, Saber Interactive announced its intention to develop the sequel for publisher Focus Entertainment, which received impressive reviews upon its 2024 release and is currently working on a follow-up.
As of now, Sega has yet to announce plans for a PlayStation 5 version of the Master Crafted Edition. For those eager to rejoin the Space Marine's battle, the game will launch on PC and Xbox Series X|S on June 10, 2025, and will be accessible via Xbox Game Pass. However, no details concerning a potential PlayStation 5 version have been disclosed as of yet.
