KSC: The Heart of the City

The KSC was pieced together in 1952 from the merger of two struggling clubs, Karlsruher FC Phoenix and VfB Mülhburg. Known as Karlsruher Sport-Club Mülhburg-Phoenix e.V., they can often be recognized by their iconic blue and white jerseys – the proud colors of the KSC. Our beloved club boasts an impressive member count of approximately 11,000, supporting its title as one of the most significant sports clubs in Germany.

The Wildpark Stadium has served as the KSC's home since 1955, providing much-needed limelight for these footballing legends. The stadium is currently undergoing renovation, with completion slated for June 2023. For more juicy details on the central hub of Karlsruher SC, check out our dedicated renovation article!

  • Phone: 0721 964350
  • Seating capacity (planned): 34,000 seats

Roots of Karlsruher SC

In 1952, the combined struggles of KFC Phoenix and VfB Mülhburg led to the formation of the current KSC. The financial woes of KFC Phoenix made stadium renovation and club upkeep unachievable, while VfB Mülhburg longed for a new stadium environment. Uniting forces, they established the Wildpark Stadium in the Hardtwald, becoming what we now recognize as the KSC.

Football, Boxing & Athletics: The Departments of KSC

The KSC encompasses:

  • Men's and women's football teams
  • Athletics department
  • Boxing department
  • Leisure sports department with fitness and darts sections

The junior team spans from U-10 to U-19 age groups, with the U-19 team playing in the highest league. The U-18 team has made it to the U-18 Bundesliga. The women's department has flourished under the KSC since the takeover of DFC Eggenstein.

Match Schedule and Sporting Development of KSC: 1st and 2nd Bundesliga

The KSC has enjoyed both fiscal and footballing successes since its formation. In the first season of the Oberliga Süd 1952/1953, the team finished fourth. They soared to victory in 1955/1956, becoming champions.

In 1963, the KSC entered the 1st Bundesliga, finishing 13th in its inaugural season. The club remained in the Bundesliga until 1968, before being demoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. The KSC played in the 2nd league (with some exceptions) until 1987, when they finally regained a spot in the 1st Bundesliga. They remained there, with brief departures, until 2003 and their latest return to the 2nd Bundesliga.
