Southern Urals sees inflation spike as food prices surge in October

Inflation in the Southern Urals has started rising again following a brief summer slowdown. October figures indicate prices climbing by 0.7% from September, pushing the annual rate to 7.4%. This increase contrasts with a slight easing in Russia’s overall inflation, which now stands at 7.71%.

Food prices led the surge in October, jumping 1.45% over the month and 9.18% compared to last year. Chicken eggs and greenhouse vegetables experienced the steepest rises, driven by higher production costs. Meanwhile, sugar became cheaper due to a strong sugar beet harvest and well-stocked warehouses.

The latest data paints a mixed picture for consumers in the Southern Urals. While some essentials like sugar have become more affordable, staples such as eggs and vegetables continue to push costs higher. The Central Bank’s outlook suggests relief may be on the horizon, though prices remain elevated for now.
