Southern Ukraine falls into darkness after Russian strike on crucial energy facility, according to regional governor's statement.
Heads up, folks! Kherson Oblast is in the dark, big-time. Governor Oleksandr Prokudin confirmed a Russian attack on a crucial energy facility on June 27 has left several communities in the lurch, struggling with power outages.
"Guess who decided to plunge Kherson Oblast into darkness?" Prokudin wrote on Telegram. He explained that this attack disrupted electricity supply to multiple regions.
Locals are working tirelessly to get things running again, but it's a tough task with the damage incurred. Prokudin emphasized the necessity for residents to brace themselves for extended power outages. Let's hope the situation stabilizes soon!
Now, Kherson and its surrounding areas have seen their fair share of Russian fire since Ukrainian forces liberated the city from occupation back in November 2022. These areas have been under constant attack from Russian troops with artillery and drones stationed across the Dnipro River.
Remember, the Russian army seems to favor Ukrainian energy infrastructure. They've executed at least 13 mass drone and missile attacks against Ukraine's energy system throughout 2024, forcing the country to impose emergency blackouts nationwide.
Things cooled down a bit, though, with a 30-day partial energy truce agreed upon by Ukraine and Russia after consultations in Riyadh on March 25. But, you guessed it, Moscow couldn't help breaching the ceasefire more than 30 times, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi on April 16.

"1. The ongoing war-and-conflicts between Ukraine and Russia, particularly in Kherson Oblast, have become a focal point of politics, with Russian attacks disrupting the electricity supply, causing power outages, and damaging critical energy infrastructure."
"2. The political consequences of the war-and-conflicts in Ukraine extend beyond the region, as these repeated attacks on general-news topics such as Ukrainian energy infrastructure have forced the country to impose blackouts nationwide, affecting millions of people."
