The southern part of the Salzbachtal bridge on Germany's Autobahn 66 in Wiesbaden will finally see some action on Monday, opening up at 2:30 PM. According to Autobahn GmbH, traffic should be able to cross this new bridge in the afternoon, with both lanes narrowed down. Say goodbye to the considerable traffic restrictions that have plagued the region.

Before the grand opening, the highway bridge will host an official ceremony, where Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) and Hessian Transport Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) will deliver speeches. The event will culminate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

November 6, 2021, was a dark day for the Salzbachtal Bridge, as it was unfortunately blown up. Prior to this, safety concerns led to its closure. In June 2021, a crucial pillar's bearing in the southern section of the bridge collapsed, causing the superstructure to collapse and sending concrete debris raining down onto the federal highway 263 below, resulting in severe traffic restrictions.

The estimated costs for this project initially came in at around 146.4 million euros in 2018. But, as construction prices went up, the total costs climbed to a whopping 225 million euros. Autobahn GmbH predicts that the northern section will be completed by mid-2025.
