Southern Russia braces for extreme weather swings this week

A sharp shift in weather is on the way for southern Russia this week. While Sochi prepares for unseasonably warm days, parts of Krasnodar Region will face a sudden freeze. The contrasting conditions will bring both spring-like warmth and bitter overnight chills.

The cold snap will hit Krasnodar Region first. Overnight temperatures on February 10 and 11 are forecast to plummet to between –8°C and –13°C (18°F–9°F). In areas where skies stay clear, readings could drop as low as –18°C (0°F).

By the end of the workweek, however, the region will see a rapid turnaround. Spring-like conditions are set to return, pushing temperatures upward once more.

Meanwhile, Sochi will enjoy a steady warm spell from Friday through Sunday. Daytime highs will reach between +15°C and +18°C (59°F–64°F). Unlike the fluctuating forecasts in Krasnodar, no cold return is expected for Sochi after this period.

The weekend will bring a stark divide in southern Russia's weather. Krasnodar's early spring revival follows two nights of severe frost. Sochi, in contrast, will remain mild with no further cold snaps in sight.
