Southern Power Aspiration Thwarted: Atiku Desired Southeastern Rule, Wike Hindered Peter Obi's PDP Participation - Momodu
In a explosive statement, Dele Momodu has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of disregarding former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's recommendation to zone the presidential ticket to the South East in 2023. This claim comes after Momodu's conversation with Arise News on Wednesday.
According to our report, Atiku had proposed this condition for not contesting in the last general election after considering Wike's insistence on the South receiving the ticket after Muhammadu Buhari's eight years.
Wike's committee, however, apparently snubbed this advice, leading Atiku to purchase a form, as Momodu himself did. During the conversation, Momodu revealed his intention to be Atiku's vice presidential candidate at that time, when Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, was facing hurdles within the party.
Momodu argued that the PDP has no issue with North-South power dynamics, as proven by their fielding of leaders such as General Obasanjo and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. He stated, "PDP, I don't know about APC or any other party. PDP does not have problem."
He continued, "It was the same Wike people, complaining about North-South, that brought the committee, that threw our party primarily open. That's why I was able to buy a form. I bought a form. Because, at that time, Atiku had told them that if they would cede power to the Southeast, then it would make sense to him. But if it would still be a rotation between just a few zones, he would not support it. He wanted them to cede power to the Southeast."
In a surprising turn of events, Momodu challenged Wike to deny his intention to become Atiku's vice-presidential candidate.
In the debate over power rotation and fairness within the PDP, Momodu's revelations offer a unique insider perspective on the dynamics that have shaped the party's decisions.
