Bavaria Receives Flood Aid from EU - Southern Europe's June floods leave €4.1B in damage as aid stalls

Southern Europe faced devastating floods in June 2024, leaving behind widespread destruction. The storms caused over €4.1 billion in damages, with Bavaria alone accounting for €1.8 billion of the losses. Despite earlier promises, the federal government has yet to provide financial aid to the region.

The flooding in June hit Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg the hardest. While both states sought EU assistance, no other European regions submitted requests for flood-related funding. Records show the European Union Solidarity Fund approved around €95 million for Bavaria's recovery.

The federal government had previously committed to supporting the affected areas. However, weeks after the disaster, no national funds have reached Bavaria. Local officials continue to push for the promised aid as repair costs climb.

Bavaria has secured €95 million from the EU to address flood damages. But the delay in federal support leaves many recovery projects on hold. The state now faces the challenge of rebuilding with limited immediate resources.
