Southern California Braces for Major Rainfall Event Tuesday
Southern California is set for a significant rainfall event starting Monday night, with heavy rain expected throughout Tuesday. The last time downtown Los Angeles saw at least 2.54 cm (an inch) of rain was in October 2011. The National Weather Service has issued a Next Weather Alert for Tuesday due to the unusual timing of the rainfall.
The meteorologist's forecast predicts widespread rainfall, with some foothill locations potentially receiving up to 5.08 cm (two inches). Low-lying areas can expect between 1.27 cm to 2.54 cm (half an inch to an inch). Temperatures will also drop significantly, with highs in the 60s for Tuesday and Wednesday. If the rain continues late into the night in San Bernardino County, it could bring snow to resort levels in places like Wrightwood and Big Bear. The heavy rainfall is expected from 3 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday. On average, Los Angeles receives just over 1.27 cm (half an inch) of rain in the entire month of October, making this upcoming event a notable exception.
Residents are advised to prepare for the unusual rainfall event, with heavy rain expected throughout Tuesday. The rainfall could bring snow to resort levels in the San Bernardino Mountains if it continues into the night. This significant weather event is a stark contrast to the typical rainfall averages for October in Los Angeles.
