Southern Alberta faces extreme winter with freezing rain and heavy snow

Southern Alberta is bracing for another blast of extreme winter weather. Freezing rain, heavy snow, and bitter wind chills will create hazardous conditions over the next few days. Cities like Edmonton and Calgary have already activated emergency responses to protect vulnerable residents.

Temperatures across the region will remain dangerously low for now. Edmonton's forecast shows a sharp rise from -21 C on Thursday to just -1 C by Monday. Calgary will see a similar shift, with Thursday's high of -17 C climbing to 9 C by Monday as a chinook moves in.

The cold snap will ease by early next week, with temperatures in both Edmonton and Calgary rising sharply. Until then, residents are being warned to stay indoors where possible and check on vulnerable neighbours. Emergency services remain on standby as the region waits for warmer conditions.
