Southeast Texas Counties Under Burn Ban as Brush Fires Surge

Several Southeast Texas counties, including Harris, are currently under a burn ban due to severe drought conditions. Local fire departments are battling an increase in brush fires, with improper disposal of flammables being a common cause.

The Spring Fire Department has responded to at least three brush fires since Friday. One recent incident involved a home on Forest Drive in Weldon Forest. Fire departments across Houston and surrounding counties, such as Montgomery, Fort Bend, Waller, and Liberty, are coordinating efforts to manage the fire situation. They work together to share resources and command incidents. Residents are urged to safely dispose of flammable items like cigarettes and barbecue coals to prevent fires from spreading. Dry conditions make it easier for fires to grow after a small spark.
