Contrary to rampant speculation, the Managing Director of the South-South Development Commission, Usoro Akpabio, has been officially confirmed to not be the daughter of Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
As reported by our source, following President Bola Tinubu's nomination, Akpabio and Chibudom Nwuche from Rivers State were appointed as the Commission's MD and Chairman, respectively.
Theeme Rumors suggesting a familial connection between the two Akpabios started circulating soon after the nomination was announced. However, Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, dismissed these rumors as baseless.
In an interview with Punch, Adaramodu stated, "There is no iota of truth in that report. It's just like believing someone named Adaramodu in Osun or Ondo is my brother. Things don't work that way."
He explained, "The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, is entirely different from Usoro Akpabio, the MD of the South-South Development Commission. Culturally, people may have similar names, but that doesn't mean they are related."
Adaramodu further clarified that the appointment was based on merit and no familial relationship existed between the appointee and the Senate President. He also added that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Usoro Akpabio are not connected in any way.
Although Adaramodu's statement puts an end to rumors of a potential relationship, it doesn't rule out the possibility of a qualified family member being appointed in the future. However, in the case of Usoro Akpabio's appointment, no familial bond exists.
